UBET Adelaide Cup Day set to be the new 'Mad March' must do

The UBET Adelaide Cup Day will be reinvented this March with the creation of a substantial new trackside entertainment enclosure featuring top-end South Australian food vans, premium cocktail bars and live music from leading Australian acts, in a bid to lure more young race-goers to the premium race day.

Taking on the signature of ‘The Starting Gate’ – the sold-out pop-up precinct that was launched in 2015 - the new enclosure will undergo a major overhaul promising foodies, music lovers, scene-setters, racing enthusiasts and fashionistas the perfect Mad March playground on Monday, 13 March.

Popular McLaren Vale restaurant Pizzateca will deliver gourmet pizzas from a trackside pop-up pizza oven, alongside top-end South Australian food vans Daisy Burger, Sooki Lala and Feisty Filomena. While trendy coffee caravan The People vs Coffee will serve Espresso Martinis, among other beverages.

Premium cocktail bars include Mr Mixer and the famed Yellowglen Terrace, which for the first time will be open to all race-goers at the UBET Adelaide Cup. Within the new precinct there will also be betting facilities and a beauty bar with hair and beauty touch-ups for the ladies, and for the first time grooming services for the gentlemen.

In a major win for the UBET Adelaide Cup, Triple J presenter and DJ/ vocalist Kristy Lee Peters (KLP) and ARIA nominated Miami Horror (DJ Set) will take to the stage for the after-race concert.

SAJC Marketing Brand Manager Luke Schapel said the new enclosure, sprawling across the Derby Lawns, would add a new dimension to UBET Adelaide Cup Day.

“This entertainment and social precinct is of a scale never seen at Morphettville before,” he said. “We are collaborating with more premium South Australian food and beverage labels than ever before and to top it off Miami Horror (DJ Set) and KLP will keep the party going well after the last race.”

“The Starting Gate links fashion, food, bars and live entertainment, making it a premium event space, whether race-goers are looking for a relaxed lawn party with friends drinking cocktails, watching leading music acts, or experiencing the excitement of thoroughbred horse racing. “Best of all, all of these entertainment, food and beverage options are open to general admission ticket holders.” Mr Schapel said the new enclosure was part of long-term goal to entice a new generation of race-goers to the UBET Adelaide Cup, as well as reinvigorating the experience of current attendees.”

“The March long weekend is one of Adelaide’s busiest weekends and SAJC recognises that it must continue to evolve and invest in facilities, food and entertainment on Cup Day to compete with other events,” he said.

“The enhancements of The Starting Gate are designed to give all South Australians a reason to choose the UBET Adelaide Cup on its public holiday.”

A ticket to the Starting Gate is $25 for adults, and is also open to all General Admission ticket holders to the 2017 UBET Adelaide Cup.

The Motor Accident Commission (MAC) is also offering all South Australian Jockey Club members and pre-purchased ticket holders free public transport on all Adelaide Metro networks to and from Morphettville Racecourse for the UBET Adelaide Cup.
