The Brother of Winx to Step out in the Listed Redelva

The brother of wonder-mare Winx, El Divino headlines the list of acceptances for the Listed Redelva Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

El Divino is coming off a freshen up after running 13th in the Group One Oakleigh Plate in February behind Sheidel. The talented colt is now in the Darren Weir camp after transferring from the Gai Waterhouse stable at the end of last year.

El Divino started his career off with two wins from two runs including victory in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick where he dead-heated with Golden Rose winner Astern but has not registered another win since then. He and trainer Darren Weir will be hoping that changes in Saturday's Listed sprint.

He will be facing stiff competition from the Gordon Richards trained Benz who won his last start in the Group 3 Zedative Stakes, while talented Victorian filly Legless Veuve has also accepted after her 16th place finish in the Group One Australian Guineas in March. A drop back in trip from 1600m to 1100m will be the big test for multiple Group winning filly but she obviously has a lot of class about her.

The intriguing runner in the field is the Lisa Lefoe trained Desert Lashes. The filly is undefeated in her seven start career and has two wins at the track and four wins at the 1100m.

Some very talented horses have won the Redelva over the years including Eclair Choice and Don't Doubt Mamma.

There have been three editions of the Redelva since it's moved back to the start of the Autumn Carnival.

Year Horse Starting Price Last Start Preparation
2016 Don't Doubt Mamma $4.40 2nd Group 2 Kewney Stakes at Flemington 3rd Up
2015 Eclair Choice $5 2nd Listed Bendigo Guineas 3rd Up
2014 Minaj $2.60 10th Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield 3rd Up

The last three winners of the Redelva have all come out of a black-type race and have been third up in their preparation.

El Divino, Benz and Legless Veuve are the three runners out of a black-type race while local hopes Bullion Wolf and So You Too are the two runners who are third up this preparation.
