UBET Adelaide Racing Carnival Feature Race Winners

The UBET Adelaide Racing Carnival has come to a close for another year and this year's edition was one of the best in recent history. The increased prizemoney over the six weeks brought some of Australia's best horses to Morphettville over April and May and saw the making of some of our country's most promising three-year-olds.

Champion trainer Darren Weir's outstanding record at Morphettville continued this autumn taking out six black-type races over the six weekends of the UBET Adelaide Racing Carnival, including the Group 1 UBET South Australian Derby.

Weir's Kenedna proved that she will be a star of the future winning the Listed Laelia Stakes and Group 3 Auraria Stakes on route to the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks in which she was cruelly denied by the Chris Waller trained Egg Tart by a nose on the line.

You can't keep a good man down though and Volatile Mix made up for the Oaks heartbreak when he a stormed home to a half a length victory courtesy of a lovely ride by John Allen.

Tony McEvoy flew the flag for South Australia collecting three stakes wins over the carnival, the biggest being a Group 3 win for his smart two-year-old filly Time Awaits in the Sires' Produce Stakes. It was also a good carnival for his stable jockey Damien Thornton who was aboard all of his three stakes winners.

David & Ben Hayes & Tom Dabernig saved their best for last when new recruit Vega Magic took out the $1 Million Group 1 Darley Goodwood and then followed it up in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes with Fuhryk.

Craig Williams claimed the honours for most stakes wins over the carnival which were all achieved all on Darley Goodwood Day where he rode four winners including the Group 1 Goodwood with Vega Magic.

Noel Callow, Damien Thornton and John Allen all collected three stakes winners, while Todd Pannell had a great carnival with two stakes winners as well as a Listed Oakbank Stakes win on Riziz over Easter.
