Experienced Field Set to Tackle Roxby Downs Cup

Kylie Mckerlie will be looking to go back to back in the BHP Roxby Downs Cup when she saddles up Eigelstein in Saturday’s feature.

Eigelstein has been very solid this preparation, doing everything but crossing the line first, filling the placings three times from five runs. Eigelstein is the equal top weight in the race but Mckerlie has opted to use the 3kg claim from in-form apprentice Kayla Crowther. The 10-year-old gelding was third behind Soaring High in the Port Augusta Cup in July and then ran well in a Benchmark 75 in town running second behind Alamonteel.

Fellow top weight Emooki’s Dash has the best form heading into the Cup running 2.6 lengths fourth behind the very smart Balf’s Choice last Saturday at Morphettville. The gelding will carry the full 60kg with the experienced David Tootell on board.

Umaluka was one of the favourites for the Port Augusta Cup but the wide barrier proved his undoing in a well-run event. A month off and barrier one should see him back to his best on Saturday.

Fresh off her city treble on Wednesday, Krystal Bishop will partner Kangaroo Island Cup winner Jestwin for Nicole Bruggeman.

The 2017 BHP Roxby Downs Cup is the fifth leg of the Outback Cups Championship which is currently being led by It’s Fred, with two more events to follow in Quorn and Jamestown.
