A Look at the Morphettville Guineas

Saturday’s Listed Morphettville Guineas is set to be a tightly contested affair for the three-year-olds as they look to launch their spring campaigns.

Tony McEvoy had accepted with three runners for the Guineas on Wednesday but has since scratched two, with Aspect set to line up at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The scratchings leave the lightly raced filly Bring Me Roses as the sole McEvoy runner on Saturday. While the filly is yet to register a win, she has some good form behind two smart horses in Tennessee Raider and Terry. She is currently a $4 second favourite with UBET.

The undefeated colt Mutamayel has been installed as the $2.50 favourite for the Hayes’ Dabernig stable. The $900k purchase defeated the Anthony Freedman trained Sky Punch by 2.75 lengths at Sandown last start and will be ridden by Paul Gatt who has won this race on two occasions.

After combining for a double last weekend, Darren Weir and John Allen will team up again this Saturday with Amerock. The Colt recorded his maiden in in his last start at Donald and is rated a $12 chance with UBET.

The Robbie Laing trained Evil Cry is still a maiden after seven starts but has run behind some very smart horses in his last three starts including Royal Symphony, Jukebox and Merchant Navy, all at Stakes level.

Locally trained Dobell is undefeated in his only race start and has had a four week freshen up ahead of Saturday’s feature. He is rated a $15 chance with UBET.

In the last six editions of the race, the favourite has saluted twice and never finished worse than fourth; while three of the last six winners have been maidens.
