A Look at the Clare Cup

Record breaking jockey Jamie Kah will be aiming for her third Clare Cup victory when she partners the David Jolly trained Penny for a Pound in Sunday’s feature.

In her short career, Kah has won the Cup in 2012 as an apprentice aboard Fraanikova and in 2015 on Jim Smith’s Proud Eagle. Sunday will be the first time Kah has ridden Penny for a Pound but she has a solid 15% winning strike rate on David Jolly’s horses.

The top-weight in the race Copper Coast Raida will be looking for back to back wins after his last start win at Port Lincoln. Kayla Crowther is set to ride the gelding on which she has a magnificent strike rate aboard. She has won four times on the horse from eight rides.

The Nicole Bruggemann trained Final Table is one from one at Clare after winning at the track back in May. The gelding has a fantastic record over the 1800m with two wins and three placings from five runs at the trip.

After contesting races like the Murray Bridge Cup and Horsham Cup, Grant Young’s Star Wars should be more than competitive on Sunday. The seven-year-old has been the bridesmaid over 1800m on three occasions, including the Horsham Cup earlier this month.
