A Look at the Ceduna Cup

Tony Haddy’s New Wave will be looking to start the new year with another win at Ceduna after claiming December’s Thevenard Cup.

New Wave took out the Thevenard Cup by 1.8 lengths defeating Ceduna Cup runners Revengeful and A Chiller. The win in December was his first since taking out the 2017 Penong Cup in March. Victorian apprentice Leticia Griffin sticks with the gelding after combining for the Thevenard Cup win.

Thevenard Cup runner-up Revengeful has been in good form of late, running second in both his last two starts. The nine-year-old is trained by Simon Drewitt who won 2016 Ceduna Cup with Testate. The top-weight will get some weight relief with 3kg claimer Alice Lindsay set to steer the gelding. Lindsay rode a winner in her first race start at Ceduna in December and will look to add to that total on Saturday.

Angela Forster’s A Chiller will be aiming to go one better than last year when she ran second behind Peressini in the 2017 Cup. A Chiller has never missed a place at the track in three starts and will get the services of senior jockey, Jeff Maund.

After returning from injury a week ago Justin Potter has claimed three wins across the state and will partner Onward for John Hickmott. Onward ran fourth in Thevenard Cup in December but will be looking to reclaim his form from the Port Augusta season where he won three on the trot over July and August.

The final runner in the field is the five-year-old Amber Diamonds. The mare is still a maiden after eleven career starts and ran fourth over the mile in her first hit-out on a dirt track in December. Mikaela Lawrence will ride for Ceduna local, Craig Cox.
