Unbeaten South Aussie aims for black type

Unbeaten South Australian My Ruby is aiming for three straight in tomorrow’s Listed, $100,000 TAB Cinderella Stakes over 1050m at Morphettville.

Trained at Strathalbyn by Wayne Francis and Glen Kent, My Ruby was ultra-impressive over 1100m at Morphettville last start, comfortably accounting for a couple of highly rated fellow two-year-old fillies, including Bribery, which lines up again this weekend.

To be ridden by Justin Potter, My Ruby looks to have the speed to overcome a wide barrier draw and should be hard to beat.

Bribery – trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy – ranged up to beat My Ruby last start, but was unable to match it with the winner over the final 100m.

A win by the other McEvoy runner would qualify as ‘quirky’, given its name is Cinderella. A victory for either of the McEvoy runners would bring up Tony McEvoy’s fourth Cinderella Stakes winner, joining Russian Caravan (2001), Bring a Ring (2013) and Time Awaits (2017).

If jockey Jason Holder salutes on Bribery it will be his second success in this race, after winning on Radio Sky back in 2000.

Caulfield trainer Byron Cozamanis is sending over last-start Moonee Valley winner Hard Rock Girl, while Adelaide trainer Jon O’Connor is chasing his second Cinderella Stakes winner with She’s Dreaming, after winning the race with Elysees in 2008.

The ‘big watch’ might be the Ciaron Maher-David Eustace first starter Dottie Dee, which is by star two-year-old sire Brazen Beau. The all-conquering Victorian barn would have provided the favourite, Unstoppabelle, but preferred to run that filly at Flemington, leaving Dottie Dee to fly the stable flag at Morphettville. Dottie Dee will piloted by Adelaide premiership-leading hoop Todd Pannell.

Selections:
1. Bribery; 2. My Ruby; 3. Dottie Dee; 4. Hard Rock Girl.
